BENTON TOWNSHIP - Benton Township trustees on Tuesday enacted a tax assessment on its commercial district for a police patrol, despite protests from property owners and the threat of a lawsuit.
"I believe it is the intent of the Benton Township Board of Trustees to force on already struggling business owners an unfair and unnecessary assessment," said John Kolaskey, owner of property at 2500 M-139, the location of Carpet Mart. "We can't afford it and we don't need it."
