ST. JOSEPH - Berrien County commissioners are considering a request from Benton Harbor Emergency Manager Tony Saunders II to provide extra sheriff's patrols during summer.

A resolution allowing $50,000 for overtime pay for deputies to boost the police presence in the city is to be considered by the county board at the April 18 meeting.

You cannot arrest your way out of a problem. The real issue should be building relationships with the citizens thats the way to truly reduce crimes in a community. think back to the days of Kensey poole, larry allen, joann dannifield, larry johnson, robert vaughn, brett coppins, milt agy.........they all knew little about community policing when it was not popular. If the county wants to truly help, find those retired officers and let them come back to teach the young officers how to build trust and relationships with the community. Good luck BH, I hope and pray its a quiet and uneventful summer, thanks Bailey for your help but the chief in BH needs to reach out to those that taught him how to be a good cop and he will have the answer on how to take his city back, its not the county's responsibility, You hear this message roger, it up to you.....
