BENTON HARBOR - The Benton Harbor City Commission tried to pass a resolution Tuesday to ask the state to limit spending by the city's emergency financial manager until a new EFM arrives, but the resolution failed in a tie vote.
The motion asked the Local Emergency Financial Assistance Loan Board to place a hold on spending until incoming EFM Tony Saunders is in place. Mayor James Hightower and Commissioners Marcus Muhammad and Duane Seats voted for the motion. Commissioners Trenton Bowens, MaryAlice Adams and Juanita Henry voted against it. Commissioner Sharon Henderson abstained.
