MDOT drops plan for I-94 rest area

Idea of creating eastbound site in Watervliet Township had drawn opposition

WATERVLIET - A controversial plan to build a rest area on eastbound I-94 in Watervliet Township has been quietly dropped by the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Township Supervisor Dan Hutchins recently updated the Township Board on the issue.

    johng...I believe that the old rest area uses a septic system that needs replaced. The cost of doing that is comparable with hooking into the Coloma sewer system, and MDOT/Coloma can't/won't/something or other.

    Why wouldn't we pursue reopening the eastbound rest area near Coloma?
