BENTON HARBOR - At least some of Benton Harbor's retired workers may start receiving smaller pension checks from the city in a couple of months.

Emergency Manager Tony Saunders said a random review of the city's 98 retirees showed that city staff have miscalculated many of their pension payments by rounding up retirement multipliers and inflating base pay. For example, he said, if a worker was entitled to a 2.5 percent retirement multiplier, the city staff erroneously rounded it up to 3 percent.
