BENTON HARBOR - Benton Harbor High School's new so-called turnaround principal, Timothy Harris, is out of a job.

But there is a question whether he resigned or was fired Monday, which was supposed to be his first official day as principal. He received an hourly stipend from the Benton Harbor Area Schools district to work in June to make the transition smoother.

Benton Harbor High School MME 11th graders recent science score was "0" (zero) Mr. Harris might have a point when he stated, "

"Part of his frustration was that he did not have a voice in which teachers to hire back, and he thought the district would use this opportunity to get rid of bad teachers. Instead, all but six teachers were rehired.

"They reassigned ineffective teachers to other schools to teach other people's kids at the elementary level," Harris said. "They kept some of the worst teachers based on the evaluations that you can possibly keep."

When he asked why, he said he was told by the assistant superintendent that science teachers are hard to find."
