ST. JOSEPH - Nearly six months after bakers at Panera Bread cafes in southwest Michigan voted to become part of a union, the company refuses to recognize the union and conditions have not improved, a union representative said Friday.
Four bakers who work the overnight shift at the Panera Bread Cafe in St. Joseph Township were among the 18 bakers at Panera Breads along the I-94 corridor to join the union in March. They are represented by Local 70 of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union.
