BENTON HARBOR — Benton Harbor city commissioners Monday agreed to support Riverfest, which is returning to the city this summer for the first time in years.

City Commissioner Sharon Henderson, one of the event’s organizers, said the support is needed so beer and wine can be sold to benefit several area nonprofits, including the African American History & Literature Gallery and Neighbors Organizing Against Racism. She said the nonprofits are applying for a special permit from the state so alcohol can be sold.
