BENTON TOWNSHIP — For the second year in a row, about a dozen students at Fair Plain Middle School worked on creating mobile apps to solve real-world problems.

Sponsored by Whirlpool Corp., the students presented their apps to a panel of judges in a friendly competition Thursday.
