BENTON HARBOR — Within 30 minutes, Benton Harbor school board trustees approved and rescinded giving the district’s superintendent emergency powers during a special meeting Tuesday.

Superintendent Andrae Townsel said the Michigan Association of Schools Boards is recommending the move so that superintendents can respond quickly when the governor issues emergency orders during the COVID-19 pandemic. He said if he needed to use the emergency powers, he would immediately let trustees know.
