Broken elevator at senior housing leaves residents stranded

BENTON TOWNSHIP — The elevator for one of Harbor Pointe Apartments’ buildings has been out for months, which has left several elderly residents in a tough spot.

Building I of Harbor Pointe Apartments, which is considered low-income, senior housing, shut down its elevator on May 5 after a state inspector found it to be faulty. Now, waiting for a part that won’t arrive for several weeks, the residents on the second and third floors – many of whom struggle with mobility or other health concerns – say they feel stranded.

Some residents at Harbor Pointe with mobility issues have been forced to stay in their apartments, unable to walk down the stairs, due to their building’s elevator being out of service.
