Deon Atkins is not permitted to discuss events that occurred Jan. 6, but he can say how proud he is of his Benton Harbor roots and all of the encouragement he received here while growing up.

Having a goal and staying focused on that goal while having a positive attitude is how to get ahead in life, according to Benton Harbor native Deon Atkins.
At a young age, Atkins decided to go into law enforcement and now he’s a sworn officer with the United States Capitol Police in Washington.
Deon Atkins was one of the brave Capitol police officers who defended our Capitol on January 6th. He’s a 2011 Benton Harbor High School graduate & I was so glad to meet him in person. Extremely grateful for his service to our nation. Thank you for all that you do, Deon! 🇺🇸 #MI06pic.twitter.com/idvHl7D5sf
