BENTON HARBOR — Benton Harbor natives Rich Hensel and Cathy Averill fondly remember spending time at the former First Congregational United Church of Christ in Benton Harbor in its heyday.

“I was baptized in the church. I was born and raised in this church,” Averill said of the landmark building at the corner of Bellview and Pipestone streets. “...This church holds a special place in the hearts of many people.”
