Restaurants struggle to fill vacancies, bristle at worker exodus

As more restaurants reopen while the pandemic drags on, a growing number of business owners are having difficulties filling open positions.

When their doors closed a second time in November, some restaurateurs have said their staff took jobs in another state. Others said former employees don’t want to come back to only be laid off again if the industry is shut down.

Donna Monell and Cameron Downey set up the deck furniture Wednesday at Cameron’s in Buchanan. After investing a lot of money on the structure, the two business owners have been unable to open the deck this year due to a lack of adequate staffing.
