ST. JOSEPH — A tearful young mother told a Berrien County jury Tuesday that while her 3-year-old daughter had been born with severe medical problems that required around-the-clock care, she was “a very special child who loved music, loved cartoons, loved going to school, and was growing and thriving.”
That all ended the night a home health care nurse was found halfway on a chair and halfway on the floor in the child’s room, mumbling to herself. The child, Ophelia Mazure, was in her bed not breathing, Shelby Mazure testified Tuesday.
