Part of the new exhibit features works by Dowagiac artist O’Larry Collins.

DOWAGIAC — A new exhibit at the Dowagiac Area History Museum pays tribute to the community’s African American residents just in time for Black History Month. It also is the start of a renewed effort to get more representation of minorities in the museum exhibits.

“Long-term, my hope is that this is just the start of delving into the African American story as it relates to Dowagiac and Cass County,” said Museum Director Steve Arseneau. “I want this to be a springboard into telling a fuller story of the African American experience here.”
