SOUTH HAVEN — When South Haven City officials were asked several months ago whether a Black Lives Matter mural could be painted on Phoenix Street in front of city hall, they were hesitant to do so, citing concerns about whether the mural would be a distraction for drivers.

Now the council has turned its hesitancy into action by approving a new mural policy for city public property that prohibits murals on streets. They did so Monday after both the Parks Commission and Planning Commission recommended against allowing murals on public roadways in the city limits, due to safety concerns.
