The St. Joseph City Commission is considering a request to paint a Black Lives Matter mural on Stadium Drive outside of St. Joseph High School.

ST. JOSEPH — City commissioners believe that allowing a Black Lives Matter street mural to be painted on Stadium Drive next to St. Joseph High School could be a big step in bringing the St. Joseph and Benton Harbor communities together in solidarity.

City Attorney Laurie Schmidt wants to explore the idea from a legal and public safety standpoint, saying there is no precedent for using a city street to present a message.
