A car heads down Upton Drive, near Whirlpool Corp.’s St. Joseph Technology Center on Wednesday. The city has recently received a grant to upgrade sections of Upton Drive.

ST. JOSEPH — St. Joseph is receiving an almost $1 million state grant to help pay for the reconstruction of Upton Drive, which is expected to cost nearly $5 million.

Mayor Laura Goos said this Transportation Economic Development Fund grant is one of two the city applied for in August from the Michigan Department of Transportation. She said they expect to find out in March if they are also receiving a $2.1 million grant from the state Economic Development Administration.
