ST. JOSEPH — United Federal Credit Union now serves over 180,000 members across six states. But at its founding, the bank was just a lockbox, stored in a Whirlpool building, a news release stated.

John Conrad was one of eight founders of the Nineteen Hundred Employee Credit Union in 1949. At that time, it only served Whirlpool employees and had around 500 members, according to the news release.
