LANSING — A Watervliet man who in August 2018 beat and strangled a woman nearly to death because he didn’t like what she made for dinner will spend at least another five years in prison.

The Michigan Supreme Court, in a ruling issued Tuesday, affirmed the original sentences, declining to hear an appeal filed by Joshua Winans. He appealed to the high court after the Michigan Court of Appeals ruled against him in a Dec. 17, 2020 decision.
