ST. JOSEPH — Dotting the shores of Silver and Tiscornia beaches this past week were short sand formations, which looked more like a scene from a national park out West or like pictures from a Mars rover.

The strange shapes inspired photographers, local TV news teams and community Facebook pages to express admiration at them.

Sand sculptures, formed from blowing wind, are pictured earlier this week at Tiscornia Beach.

Recent winds have eroded the sand, leaving sculptures at area beaches including Tiscornia Beach.
