By the time you’re reading this column next month you might have a whole family of bunnies living in your garden.

It takes just about a month for a rabbit to have a litter of kits.

The start of spring and Easter season always makes me think of bunnies. I love those cute little floof balls, and that’s probably why I have an indoor bunny. Her name is Cashmere.

But if you’re not keen on the whole bunnies/Peeps/practical jokes thing in April, try celebrating National Ferret Day on April 2.

You probably don’t think ferrets are cute, like I do, but they are very interesting creatures. Male ferrets are called hobs and female ferrets are called jills. Their offspring are called kits and the whole family is called a business. How cute is that?

My favorite holiday might be on April 4: National Hug A Newsperson Day. We are a very cozy people.

If you see me that day, ask my consent, then give me a big ole hug. I spent thousands of dollars on journalism school for that annual hug.

April 10 is National Siblings Day. The day was founded by Claudia Evart in 1995 to honor and celebrate siblings. After losing her two siblings early in life in separate accidents, she knew how important siblings could be in our lives.

My little sisters are great, but we’re terrible at keeping in touch. So if you haven’t talked to a sibling in a while, give them a call April 10.

On April 16, don’t worry about what you’re wearing to work. It’s National Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day.

I’m not sure how your boss would feel about unicorn pants and an old T-shirt, but I know mine wouldn’t appreciate mine. Maybe they’ll go easy on us April 16 because it’s a national holiday.

April 19 might be a good day to ward off vampires and other evil spirits in your life – or just cook a dish with garlic in it – because it’s National Garlic Day.

Our dreams often have meaning and apparently dreaming of garlic is no different. To dream about garlic in the house is supposed to mean good luck, and if the dream includes eating it, there might be hidden secrets. There are more than 300 varieties of garlic in the world to dream about.

On April 26 everyone is supposed to ... help a horse?

Though it sounds funny, National Help a Horse Day is meant to bring awareness to abused and neglected horses. For more information on how to help a horse, visit

To finish out the month, you have your pick of 10 different holidays.

April 30 is National Bubble Tea Day, National Sarcoidosis Day, National Military Brats Day, National PrepareAthon! Day, National Honesty Day, National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, National Bugs Bunny Day, National Hairstylist Appreciation Day, National Oatmeal Cookie Day and National Raisin Day.

I’ll probably make oatmeal raisin cookies and celebrate two in one.
