Later this month is Purim, the Jewish holiday honoring Esther, who stopped Haman’s plot to massacre the Hebrews by telling King Xerxes of Persia, her husband, that she was Jewish.

Part of the celebration is to eat such traditional foods like hamantaschen, a triangle-shaped pastry typically filled with fruit, and large rounds of challah, a braided bread said to be a reminder of the rope used to hang Haman.
