Lashunn Harper

Lashunn Harper is owner of Dialo’s Cafe in Benton Harbor. The restaurant offers a lot of Southern-style foods.

Every February, we celebrate Black History Month to honor all the wonderful achievements black Americans have made, including their contributions to our cuisine.

Despite profound influences – think macaroni and cheese, and Tennessee whiskey, just to name a couple – many of these “food influencers” were enslaved, and their names mainly lost to history. But their stories, when told, are unique.
