Library wins landscaping award

WATERVLIET — Watervliet District Library was recently honored by the Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association.

The association recently announced its 2018 Plant Michigan Green Community Landscape Beautification Award winners, which included the library for its garden park.

The award program recognizes communities for their excellence in improving the physical and aesthetic environment of their neighborhoods, and in raising awareness of the positive economic growth and environmental impacts that quality landscaping brings to Michigan’s communities.

These projects are designed to enhance the visual image of the neighborhoods, improve livability, build civic pride and promote community spirit.

An award ceremony has been scheduled for 3 p.m. June 3 at the library, 333 North Main St.

Heartland Alliance tour planned

The Heartland Alliance Home & Garden Tour of professionally designed homes and gardens in Southwest Michigan will be from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. June 8.

The tour benefits the Alliance, which transforms existing spaces of other nonprofits through design services and in-kind donations.
