Surgeons to discuss weight loss options

ST. JOSEPH — The Lakeland Weight Loss Center will host a free seminar, “Lose Weight ... Find Health,” next week.

The seminar will be from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday in the community room at Caring Circle, 4025 Health Park Lane.

Bariatric surgeons Michael Schuhknecht and Seth Miller will discuss programs available for losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight for years to come.

Kasewurm’s hosting free hearing event at The Inn

ST. JOSEPH — Dr. Kasewurm’s Professional Hearing Services will host a free hearing event from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at The Inn at Harbor Shores, 800 Whitwam Drive.

Dr. Gyl Kasewurm of St. Joseph and Dr. Dave Fabry of Starkey Hearing Technologies will share information about a new hearing aid device.

This new technology is the first to utilize the ears to help people better understand how to improve their health and wellness, and the connection between treating hearing loss and reducing health risks, according to a news release.

The event will feature prizes, including a chance to win a set of new hearing aids. Food and drinks will be available.

AAA offering electives for Aging Mastery Program

ST. JOSEPH — The Region IV Area Agency on Aging will offer a series of Aging Mastery Program electives this summer.

The electives are part of a health-and-wellness program developed by the National Council on Aging. The classes focus on physical/mental health, financial health, and life enrichment.

At each class, there will be a guest speaker who is a subject matter expert on the topic. Participants will be provided with educational materials.

The classes are independent of each other, so participants can attend one or all of the them. Classes are:

• “Making the Most of Medicare and Preventive Health Services”: 9-10:30 a.m., June 24

• “Memory Matters”: 9-10:30 a.m., July 9

• “Rightsizing Your Life”: 1-2:30 p.m., July 22

• “Aspirations/Bucket List”: 1-2:30 p.m., Aug. 13

• “Intergenerational Connections”: 9-10:30 a.m., Aug. 19

All classes will be at the AAA’s Campus for Creative Aging, 2920 Lakeview Ave.

Each class is $10. Class size is limited, and registration is required.
