Muni Band plays dual concerts today, Sunday
ST. JOSEPH — The St. Joseph Municipal Band will feature guest vocalist Jeff Whittaker during its 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. concerts today at the John E. N. Howard Band Shell, 550 Port St.
Whittaker is a 1981 graduate of Niles High School, and was an award-winning vocal music major at Western Michigan University. He went on to professional theater, and further studied at Indiana University South Bend.
He was a member of The Spurrlows, a contemporary Christian music group, and traveled across the United States and Canada doing conventions and special events.
He has been a concert artist throughout China, Russia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Scotland, with additional missions to more than a dozen countries around the world.
The senior pastor at Michiana Christian Embassy Church, he resides in Niles with his wife, Doreen.
Today’s holiday concerts will be filled with patriotic music, and will give special recognition to veterans.
The holiday concert will end with a unique encore, which will begin with the playing of taps while all veterans are asked to come to the stage and be acknowledged as the band plays the last strains of “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
The band’s next concerts will be at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday, featuring guest vocalist Michelle Bythrow.
Morton House to welcome Boyersmith
BENTON HARBOR — Morton House Museum, 501 Territorial Road, will host guest speaker Debbie Boyersmith at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
She will speak on “Israelite House of David: Women of Faith.”
Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for students, and free for museum members.
