Chelsea Childs

Chelsea Childs stands in the kitchen of her Buchanan home, which she shares with her husband, Kevin, daughter, Carolyn, and cat, Bunny. She underwent medical procedures in December to correct a hiatal hernia and gastroesophageal reflux disease.

Chelsea Childs often would awake at night with a terrible burning sensation crawling up her throat before rushing to the bathroom to vomit.

“It was brutal,” said Childs, a third-grade teacher at Howard-Ellis Elementary School in Niles. “It would burn so bad. I would start coughing, and then I would wheeze and just throw up, sometimes barely making it to the bathroom.”
