Can you hear me now?

Akins has her Vocera device on a lanyard, while Jerz's is pinned to her lapel. Lakeland bought the system with the help of an anonymous donation of $25,000 made through the Lakeland Health Foundation.

ST. JOSEPH - Nurses at Lakeland hospitals in St. Joseph and Niles have a new way of communicating with each other.

The nurses and other hospital workers can talk to each other by speaking into small badges they wear around their necks. The new wireless communications system, called Vocera, has been in place for awhile at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph and was just put in place at Lakeland Community Hospital, Niles.
