John Madill / H-P staff Jeff Noel, vice president of communication and public affairs for Whirlpool Corp., looks over a variety of different designs for a new office building Whirlpool will build at the site of the former LeValley car dealership in Benton Harbor. A press conference was held Thursday at the old LeValley showroom.

BENTON HARBOR - Whirlpool Corp. announced Thursday it will invest up to $85 million in its world headquarters in the Twin Cities area, including constructing a three-building campus in downtown Benton Harbor that will house more than 1,000 workers.

The new campus near the St. Joseph River is part of a broader plan to close most of the company's 15 scattered offices in this area and consolidate them into three campuses and two other sites.
