Republican Representatives Kim LaSata, 79th District, and Dave Pagel, 78th District, are seeking the nomination for the 21st Senate District. The winner will face Democrat Ian Haight in November.

LaSata, of Bainbridge Township, is completing her first term as representative, elected in 2016 after a career as a teacher at Lake Michigan Catholic Schools. As a House member she serves on the House Committee on Appropriations. She is chairwoman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education and vice chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government.

Pagel, of Oronoko Township, is completing his third House term, having been elected in 2012, and is leaving due to term limits. In the House he serves on the House Appropriations Committee and is chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on the Department of Corrections. Pagel was president of the Berrien Springs Board of Education for 14 years and was chairman of the Berrien County Board of Commissioners for four years.
