Republicans John James and Sandy Pensler want their party’s bid.

James, 36, is president of James Group International and lives in Farmington Hills with his wife, Elizabeth, and their two children. He is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and served as a helicopter pilot in the Iraq War.

Pensler, 61, lives in Grosse Pointe with his wife, Anita. They have two children. He is a graduate of Yale University and the Harvard University School of Law. He owns a business that specializes in turning around struggling factories.
