ST. JOSEPH — A Benton Harbor man who years ago was exonerated after serving nearly four years in federal prison for a crime he didn’t commit faces new, serious charges in Berrien County.
Jameel McGee, 39, was released from prison in February 2009 after it was discovered that the former police officer who had arrested him, Andrew Collins, had framed him. Collins also went to prison. After both were released, the two encountered one another again in Benton Harbor and eventually became friends. They’ve traveled the country together sharing their story of forgiveness and redemption.
