WATERVLIET — The Watervliet school board will hold a second round of interviews for superintendent next week.

After interviewing six candidates on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights this week, the school board narrowed the candidates to two it wants to interview again, next Tuesday.

Ric Seager, high school principal in Schoolcraft, will be interviewed at 6:30 p.m. and Jonathan Whan, superintendent for Grant Public Schools, will be interviewed at 7:30 p.m.

Seager was a finalist for the Coloma Community Schools superintendent position last summer and Whan was a finalist for the South Haven superintendent position late last year.

Watervliet’s superintendent position was vacated by Kevin Schooley, who got the position in South Haven. John Jarpe is serving as interim superintendent of Watervliet schools through the end of June.

The second round of interviews will take place in the Watervliet High School Media Center and are open to the public.

The candidates were invited by the school board to spend time in the district prior to the interviews to meet with administrators and staff and tour the facilities.

Initial plans made by the school board pointed to them making a decision on who to hire immediately after the second round of interviews.

The new superintendent is anticipated to begin July 1.
