BENTON TOWNSHIP — It’s been two years since it was announced that the Courtyard by Marriott would be coming to Benton Township.
It’s now open and accepting guests.
The Courtyard became the fourth hotel to open on the stretch of road where Nickerson Court turns into Cinema Way – which has become known as the hotel corridor.
Opening in May, the 104-room hotel at 1295 Cinema Way is operating as a Marriott franchise, managed by Farmington Hills-based Pinnacle Hospitality.
“We are so very proud to offer our Southwest Michigan guests this state-of-the-art hotel,” Pinnacle Hospitality spokesman Spencer Sandiha said in an email to The Herald-Palladium. “Marriott truly put a lot of thought into the amenities, design and ambiance of this new Courtyard prototype.”
The four-story hotel features an indoor swimming pool, large fitness center, guest laundry, outdoor seating, and 1,800-square-feet of meeting space to accommodate functions of up to 125 guests.
The Courtyard has an “innovative lobby” using a new contemporary design with an open and modern environment. The hotel amenities includes a Starbucks cafe, craft beer, wine and spirits in the lounge.
The bistro is the focal point of the lobby, with more flexible and informal seating options. The bistro includes a variety of made-to-order breakfast and dinner items and “grab-and-go” options.
When it comes to the rooms, Sandiha said Courtyard researches trends and makes changes to meet the needs of its guests.
The latest room design offers hybrid zones for working, sleeping and relaxing.
Guests can store bags on the luggage drop and plug devices into the tech drop ledge for technology integration.
Signature furniture and architectural elements were added to replace the traditional art in the guest rooms.
Each bathroom includes a shower nook that are equipped with amenities.
The business library features several computer terminals, along with a printer and separate computer stations dedicated to printing airline boarding passes and checking flight statuses.

This is the third hotel Pinnacle Hospitality has opened along Cinema Way.
Sam Sandiha, hotel developer and owner of Pinnacle, previously told The HP he added so many hotels to the Benton Township commercial district along M-139 due to a need and traffic counts.
“It’s all about demand. For so many years we had so many hotels in town, but new ones are long overdue,” Sandiha said in 2017. “When was the last time we had a new hotel come around? All the other hotels in the area are over 20 years old. The demand is there and it’s needed.”
With a Fortune 500 company in Whirlpool Corp. based in town, the Twin Cities area becoming a vacation destination in the summer and the Senior PGA Championship that returns to Benton Harbor every other year, Sandiha said there are a lot of attractions that bring people to Southwest Michigan for an overnight stay.
In addition to the Courtyard by Marriott, Pinnacle Hospitality has a 94-room, four-story Springhill Suites by Marriott and a 88-room, four-story Staybridge Suites hotel stationed along Cinema Way in Benton Township.
Counting the adjacent Hilton Garden Inn, the Cinema Way corridor near Nickerson Avenue features four hotels with nearly 370 rooms.
