Man wounded in robbery try

BENTON TOWNSHIP — A Benton Harbor man is recovering from a gunshot wound after a Friday night attack in Benton Township, township police reported.

Detective Sgt. Michael DenDooven said officers responded to a 7:30 p.m. call from Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph, where emergency room staff treated Marlon Sanders, 33. Sanders was shot in the right pelvis, and the injury is belived non-life-threatening.

Sanders told police the attack occurred as he and Almon Lee, 35, of Benton Harbor were getting into a car at the Blossom Acres housing complex. Two men brandishing guns approached the car and one demanded money from Sanders.

One man then shot Sanders. Furthermore, the men told police, shots were fired at them as they drove away.

Lee drove Sanders to the ER.

The attackers are described as black men about 25 years old. One wore dark clothing and the other wore gray.
