Silver Beach seeks lifeguards, offers safety info

Beachgoers pack Silver Beach in St. Joseph in July of 2016. Berrien County Parks is seeking lifeguards for the 2018 summer season.

ST. JOSEPH — Whether you are traveling to a beach in warmer climates for spring break or daydreaming about summer in Southwest Michigan, it’s not too early to think about water safety for yourself – and someone else.

Berrien County Parks is looking ahead to the summer 2018 season and is building the Silver Beach lifeguard team. Lifeguards and staff at Silver Beach work to prevent accidents in the first place. Staff patrol the beach and water for hazards and enforce park rules to discourage unsafe beach and water activities. In the case of an incident or accident, lifeguards perform rescue and emergency care and administer first aid.
