COVERT — When Betty Colombel steps foot Saturday Into the Smithsonian’s new Museum of African American History and Culture, she won’t only be viewing images of famous black people who helped shape the nation, but ones who helped build her small hometown of Covert.

Colombel is among the lucky few who will get a sneak preview of the museum a week before it officially opens, Sept. 24, in Washington D.C., and she can’t wait to see it.
