COVERT — Three Covert Township residents may face criminal charges in the death of a Hartford man.
Police arrested two men and a woman Wednesday morning after obtaining a warrant to search a home in the 71000 block of 28th Avenue, Covert Township Police Chief Jay Allenn said.
The residence is near to where David E. Reyna, 23, was found dead May 8 in a vehicle parked in a field in the 27000 block of 72nd Street.
During the search of the home, police found drugs, drug paraphernalia and firearms.
The three Covert Township residents were arrested on outstanding warrants. However, investigators say they may have played a role in Reyna’s death.
“Those charges are pending,” said Allen, who did not release the suspects’ names.
Allen said he suspects drugs were involved, though the cause of Reyna’s death has not yet been confirmed.
“He might have OD’d but we don’t know,” said Allen, who is still waiting for toxicology reports from Reyna’s autopsy.
Allen did not indicate the alleged role the three suspects played in Reyna’s death.
“Our investigation led us to that location,” Allen said, referring to the home where the three suspects were arrested. But he would not comment further.
Several other police agencies were at the residence when it was searched Wednesday. Those agencies are Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan State Police and South Haven police.
