DOWAGIAC — Three people from Indiana were arrested after police were called to a fight at an apartment complex in Dowagiac Tuesday.

Dowagiac Public Safety Director Steven Grinnewald said police were called at about 5:20 p.m. to the Vineyard Place Apartments in the 500 block of Vineyard Place Drive after several callers reported a large fight happening in the parking lot.

When police arrived they were able to stop two vehicles that were leaving the area with multiple occupants in both vehicles.

During their investigation police determined that the people in the vehicles had traveled from South Bend to fight with people living at the apartment complex. A 20-year-old woman and 19-year-old woman were arrested on charges of assault and battery. The 19-year-old was also charged with child endangerment because one of the victims she allegedly assaulted was holding an infant child.

A third person, a 21-year-old woman, was arrested on a charge of driving without a driver’s license.

All three were taken to the Cass County jail. Their names were withheld pending arraignment.

Grinnewald said two of the victims from the assault were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Their names were not released.

Dowagiac police were assisted at the scene by Cass County sheriff’s deputies, Silver Creek Township police and Pride Care EMS.

Police are continuing their investigation and anyone with information is asked to call Dowagiac police at 782-9743 or the Cass County Tip Line at 800-462-9328.
