The St. Joseph City Commission has approved plans for major repairs to be made to the Howard Family Trail Bridge in St. Joseph.

ST. JOSEPH — The Howard Family Trail Bridge over the CSX railroad will close in early March for repairs after rust and corrosion were found in steel beams and joists during an inspection.

The repairs are expected to cost about $156,500, including $16,000 to install erosion control at the substructures on the bluff side. Greg Grothous, deputy director of parks and grounds, told the St. Joseph City Commission on Monday that he expects the repairs to be completed and the bridge to be re-opened by June 1.
