VB commissioner facing challenger in August

PAW PAW — One Van Buren County commissioner will face a challenger during the August primary and one other will not seek re-election. 

Commissioner Richard Freestone, a Republican from Bangor, will face Mike Chappell a Republican from Hartford, for the District 4 seat. Both filed for election before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. deadline. 

Commissioner Mike Toth of Paw Paw will not seek re-election. Running for his District 5 seat are Randall Peat, a Republican, and Democrat Bill Webster, both of Paw Paw. The two will face each other in the November election. 

In District 6, Commissioner Donald Hanson, a Republican from Decatur, will face Carey Gidden, a Democrat from Lawrence, in the November election. 

In District 1, no one filed to challenge Commissioner Gail Patterson-Gladney, a Democrat from South Haven. In District 2, no one filed to challenge Kurt Doroh, a Republican from Bangor. 

Richard Godfrey, a Republican from Bloomingdale, will run for re-election to his District 3 Commission seat. In District 7, Commissioner Paul Schincariol, a Republican from Mattawan, will run for re-election. No one filed to challenge the two.

All terms are two years.
