Spectrum Health recently announced plans for a merger with Southfield-based Beaumont Health. The combined health care system is expected to become official in the fall.

Spectrum Health officials announced Thursday morning their intent to merge with Southfield-based Beaumont Health by this fall.

The merger would allow the two entities to become a combined system that would operate 22 hospitals and 305 outpatient locations, with more than 64,000 team members, including more than 7,500 affiliated, independent and employed physicians, and more than 15,000 nurses. Spectrum operates the Spectrum Health Lakeland system in Berrien County.
