Jane A. McMurray, 83, of St. Joseph went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at Caretel Inns of Lakeland in St. Joseph.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, at St. Joseph First United Methodist Church, 2950 Lakeview Ave., St. Joseph, with Pastor Dan Colthorp officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery in Colon, Mich. Friends may visit with the family from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, June 7, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. Jane was born on Dec. 20, 1935, to Clayton and Martha (Duguid) Straw on the family farm near Reading, Mich. She graduated from Western Michigan University, where she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in education. She taught for the River Valley School District for over 17 years. On July 12, 1958, Jane married the love of her life, Morris McMurray. Jane was a member of St. Joseph First United Methodist Church where she was involved in the Monday night Bible study and other adult activities and was a former Sunday school teacher. She had a deep faith in God that was handed down to her children and grandchildren.

Throughout life Jane had a taste for adventure and travel that she shared with Morris – flying to Ireland for their 25th wedding anniversary. Upon retirement, Jane and Morris traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Hawaii and Alaska.

Jane is survived by her husband, Morris McMurray, of St. Joseph; children, Martha (Patrick) McCrevan of St. Joseph and Patrick McMurray of Lake Worth, Fla.; grandchildren, Leah Doyle, Christin Toney, Olivia McCrevan and Isaiah McCrevan; great-grandchildren, Anidale, Brendan and Giovanni; and sisters, Dorothy Wade and Ruthe McNee.

Honoring Jane’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton and Martha Straw; and seven brothers and sisters.
