Joyce L. Curtis-Miller

Joyce L. Curtis-Miller, 90, of Benton Harbor, took the hand of Jesus and was led through the heavenly gates on Saturday, June 1, 2019. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph.

Joyce was born on Sept. 9, 1928, in St. Joseph, to the late John and Ida (Winfield) Sech. She attended St. Joseph public schools. On Oct. 25, 1947, Joyce married the love of her life, Clark “Swede” Curtis. Soon thereafter – Jan. 3, 1953 – they became parents to their only child, Roger. She was a devoted mother and wife, loved to cook and spend time with her family. Joyce was employed at Chickhaven for many years and also volunteered at Lakeland Hospital in the café. In 1978 her husband, Clark, passed away. Five years later she married Harvey Miller, who preceded her in death in 1992. Joyce was a member of the Covenant Christian Church in Benton Harbor.

Joyce leaves to cherish her loving memory: grandchildren, Brent Curtis and Nicole (Steve) Ellis, USAF; great grandson, Matthew Ellis; sister, Lois Miller; stepsons, Jack (Bonnie) Miller and Bob (Pam) Miller; step-grandchildren, John and Steven; former daughter-in-law, Sheila Curtis; special niece, Beverly and daughter Hanna Starke; special friends, Michelle, Sandra and Angela with son Cyle; a host of nieces, nephews and friends; and her beloved feline friend, Missy.

She is also preceded in death by her son, Roger; and brothers, Donald and John Sech.

A Celebration of Life service will take place at noon on Saturday, June 8, at Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home, with Pastor Dan Head officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Run Cemetery in St. Joseph. Visitation precedes the service from 11 a.m. to noon at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Berrien County Cancer Service or to the Alzheimer’s Association. Friends wishing to leave a message of condolence for the family may do so at
