Sandra Lee Valentine
Sandra Lee Valentine, 81, of Bangor passed away peacefully at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo, after a long battle with health concerns, surrounded by her family.
Sandra was born on April 30, 1938, in Bangor, the daughter of John and Virginia Sherrick, delivered by her grandfather, Dr. Edwin G. Low. Sandra was a graduate of Bangor High School, a lifetime member of Simpson United Methodist Church of Bangor, a longtime member of the Van Buren County Republican Women’s Club, a member of Friends of the Library, an honorary lifetime member of the Bangor Historical Society and a member of the Van Buren County Genealogical Society. She spent 18 years as executive director of the American Red Cross chapters in Van Buren County and Livingston County.
Survivors include sons, David (Ellie) Kerstetter, Paul (Pam) Valentine and John Valentine; brother, John (Margaret) Sherrick; cousins, Mike (Margaret) Low, Pat (Grace) Low and Tom (Cheryl) Low; grandsons, Joe Wegel and Rafael Velazquez; great-granddaughter, Sydney Velazquez; special friends: ex-husband Roger Valentine, Connie O’Neil, Terry Abbott, Naomi Pike and lifelong friend Pat Jacobs Hart.
The family would like to thank Sandra’s loving caregivers, Lois Widerberg, Kathy Reynolds, Jamie Warkentien, Anna Fletcher, Liz Speer, Ginger Davison, daughter-in-law Pam Valentine and all the wonderful staff at Meadow Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at Simpson United Methodist Church, Bangor, followed by a luncheon. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Simpson United Methodist Church or to the Bangor Historical Society. Arrangements are by the Bangor Chapel, D.L.
