As Michigan schools begin announcing their plans for the upcoming 2020-21 school year, please remember that the issue of safely educating students during a pandemic is massively complex.

There is no solution that will please all stakeholders in all communities. Please be understanding that administrators are not only bound to follow certain government mandates, but are trying to do so while also navigating excruciating budget deficits. Please realize that your child’s teacher would much rather be teaching your child in their classroom, and has done so each year despite fighting off influenza, strep throat, and all sorts of other germs that kids frequently share. COVID is different. This is a fact, not an opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but nobody is entitled to their own facts.
