Editor,

Growing up in St. Joe we never thought of ourselves as being privileged; our friends were just normal middle-class. After graduating from high school and stepping out of the immediate community, the inequalities between St. Joe, Benton Harbor and in the world in general, were glaring. Several years ago a classmate, Dave Knight, and several other photographers did a photo essay and book on St. Joe and Benton Harbor over two days. The images in “Twin Cities 48 hours” graphically shows the difference, and also illustrates the common thread of humanity that ties our communities together.
