Editor,

Mr. Brown ("Support what you value," column, April 18) can find why advertising has dropped off by reading Executive Order (EO) 2020-42, Paragraph 11.d.3.: “[R]efrain from the advertising or promotion of goods that are not groceries, medical supplies, or items that are necessary to maintain the safety, sanitation, and basic operation of residences.” When trying to keep a business open, “refrain from” becomes “thou shalt not” when law enforcement is at the door. This newspaper has reported on at least two specific incidences of law enforcement intimidation happening (Niles Rural King and Benton Harbor Lowe’s).
